If you are considering private tuition then you are not alone.
In an article in ‘The Independent’ newspaper on 23rd August 2011 it revealed that,
“Almost a quarter (22%) of students across England receive private tuition at some point during their time at school, most commonly to help them prepare for GCSE in English and Maths. In London that figure rises to an estimated 43%.”
In areas where there are selective secondary schools that percentage of children receiving private tuition is even higher. In a recent survey of two grammar schools, 72% of new pupils had received private tuition in order to help them get there.
Private tuition is sometimes referred to as the ‘shadow education system’ and just as in the mainstream education system, not all education establishments have the same track-record, reputation and experience. As the popularity of private tuition increases so too do the number of tuition agencies; it therefore can be difficult to know where to start in finding a good local tutor.
Home School Tutoring (HST) was established in 1984 and therefore has over 25 years of success and experience in the private tutoring arena. A key part of our success is that, unlike some agencies, we have local area advisors who know their local tutors and who also have a solid grasp of the education system and the situation locally. Area advisors are passionate about what they do and ensure that sound advice is given in regards to tuition and that the client is matched with the most suitable tutor. Parents feel secure that education is at the heart of everything that we do. The best private tutors tend to be attracted to the best tuition agencies and therefore we are also privileged to have some really outstanding tutors on our registers.
When comparing tuition agencies we also pride ourselves on the fact that all of our tutors are carefully vetted. We feel this is very important and so do our tutors. Each tutor has an Enhanced CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) certificate and we also take up references. Area Advisors develop a working relationship with the tutors and gain feedback from parents. We can therefore be sure we are offering quality local tutors to our clients rather than simply picking names from a list of tutors who would like to do some tutoring.
At Home School Tutoring we are excited about what we do and really want to help. We know tuition makes a difference,
“Analysis of one-to-one tuition has shown that on average, pupils improve by around five months over the course of a year. The impact is particularly strong for younger learners who fall behind in reading and maths at primary school. This sort of intensive ‘catch-up’ tuition can therefore be a good way to raise the achievement of those who are falling behind at school, as well as stretching the more able.” (The Independent 23/8/11)
Please contact your Home-School Tutoring Area Advisor if you would like to find the right local tutor for your tuition needs. We are here to help and would also be very happy to talk to you and give advice even in you don’t go ahead with tuition. The Home-School Tutoring Area Advisor details can be found by putting in your post code/ town/city into the search facility on our website.
