Home-School Tutoring in Herefordshire

Home-School Tutoring offers experienced tutors who understand the schooling system in the Herefordshire area, and we welcome the opportunity to support you with tutoring whatever the subject or learning need.

If you would like to check that your town or village is covered by John, please see the ‘Areas Covered’ section to the right, which provides a full list of the postcodes our Herefordshire tutors can visit.

We provide individual and group tuition to pupils in primary school and secondary school throughout Herefordshire, as well as students in sixth form and college.

Herefordshire-based university students who would like personal tuition for a degree programme or other higher education courses are also supported.

We also provide home tuition to adults in the county who are undertaking courses or wishing to develop skills, including literacy, numeracy, foreign languages and music.

Home tutoring for all subjects and levels

We tutor students of all ages and abilities, including those in state schools, special schools and the independent sector, as well as pupils in home schooling.

Our desire is to build confidence and help children, young people and adults achieve their potential.

We understand the particular importance of good grades in Maths and English and have a number of excellent Maths and English tutors available.

Our tutors also help students learn and practise revision and exam techniques that will help with all subjects at GCSE, A Level and other stages.

We also know that many parents hope their children will achieve places at a selective school of their choice and, later, apply to a good university. If your child is in private education or hoping for a place at a grammar school or independent school, we have tutors who specialise in preparing pupils for the 11+ and individual entrance exams.

Equally, we love to help pupils who have struggled with learning. We aim to help these pupils to progress, enjoy learning and fulfil their potential. We have dyslexia specialists and SEN tutors available for Herefordshire students, as well literacy and numeracy tutors, who can take the stress out of learning and make it enjoyable.

We also provide home tuition for a range of non-curriculum subjects. A full list – with subjects ranging from accountancy to theology – is provided to the right.

John is our Home-School Tutoring Area Advisor for Herefordshire and Gloucestershire, and is passionate about teaching and learning. John has worked as a mathematics teacher at a secondary school for five years and also has experience of working as a personal tutor for students across the age and ability range.

John will be pleased to run this Area of Home-School Tutoring to assist pupils of all ages achieve more understanding and success in their learning. All subjects, levels and ages are covered.

As this is a relatively new area, additional teachers and tutors are invited to join the register of available tutors in this area.

John’s own speciality is mathematics and, as well as running this Area of Home-School Tutoring to provide help for all subjects, he will continue to tutor mathematics himself.

John understands that students can find aspects of mathematics daunting and can benefit from one-to-one support in order to achieve their true potential. He believes that a student needs to understand how, why and what they are doing, which can sometimes be overlooked in a busy classroom environment. (And this could be said for any subject.)

One-to-one tutoring, including ICT support where appropriate, can aid student understanding and help to boost confidence in the subject. Furthermore, John believes that all learning should not just be functional but also creative – and therefore fun.

Prior to teaching, John was a Civil Engineer for 20 years and this industrial experience has been an invaluable asset to his approach. He is a very approachable and understanding teacher and manager.

John loves family life with his partner, Jenny, and his two young children. He enjoys running and keeping fit, and is also passionate about electronic music.

If you are considering personal tuition for yourself or your child, please give John a call. He will discuss and help to identify the learning needs or issues, and then recommend to you the most suitable tutor.

John would like to stress that he welcomes enquiries from tutors who are graduates or have qualified teacher status, in any subject, who would like to join the team of Herefordshire/Gloucestershire tutors.

Each Home-School Tutoring Area seeks experienced, qualified teachers and graduates who can be available as tutors. Enjoy seeing your pupils develop confidence and make progress.
