Worried about the 11-plus or Common entrance exam? Look no further: our specialist tutors are here to help.
If you’re a parent keen for your child to secure a place at a selective secondary school, you’re probably already wondering whether home tutoring would help your child prepare for the tests ahead.
Many parents enlist home tutors for the 11-plus in areas with intense competition for school places. Two years ago, a survey in Sevenoaks found that 44.7 per cent of children entering the 11-plus received private tuition. All parents want the brightest future for their children, so it’s no surprise that almost 1 in 2 here (and similar numbers elsewhere) turn to private tutors ahead of 11-Plus and Common Entrance exams.
Why is 11-Plus tutoring so effective?
Researchers from the Institute of Education (IoE) spoke to students at grammar schools in south-east England to better understand the high demand for 11-plus tutoring. Asked if they believed that private tuition had helped them to pass the entrance exam, 78% answered firmly that it had.
“One of the key factors is that tuition gives these pupils confidence and helps calm down pre-exam nerves,” Prof Ireson, Emerita Professor of Psychology in Education at the Institute of Education, University of London, explained.
By giving pupils a clearer idea about what is expected of them and reducing their anxiety, our tutors have helped pupils across England face the 11-plus with confidence.
