Introducing the team of tutors
All the tutors in my Gloucestershire team, including myself, have a love of learning and teaching, and believe it is a privilege to be able to share that knowledge and expertise in a patient and encouraging way through tutoring support.
There are very few experiences in life more rewarding than seeing children and older students grow in confidence, and begin to enjoy learning and working towards goals.
Tutoring for success and confidence
There is no doubt that personal tuition, or small group tuition, provides a huge boost to confidence and understanding whatever the age or ability, and we are pleased to offer experienced tutors for all levels and subjects.
We understand the schooling system in the Gloucestershire area, and tutor pupils in state and independent sectors at all stages of their education. Whatever you need, we will endeavour to recommend an ideal tutor from our team.
We also find we are supporting an increasing number of families who are home schooling their children. For others, the aim may be a place at a Gloucestershire grammar school and, later, to apply to a good university. Or you may be a student or an adult learner who would benefit from a supportive tutor.
Equally, we love to help pupils of any age who struggle with their learning: we aim to help all pupils to enjoy learning, progress and achieve their best. I am very proud to be the preferred supplier of tuition and educational services for the Gloucester and Forest Alternative Provision Schools (GFAPS), helping children unable to attend mainstream education as a result of emotional and behavioural difficulties. It is a privilege to be directly helping students who find themselves in this position.
I hope you will make contact and, as the Area Advisor, I look forward to your enquiry. Just fill in the enquiry form below or contact me on the phone numbers above. You can also email me at email@example.com
John is our Home School Tutoring Area Advisor for Herefordshire and Gloucestershire. He is passionate about teaching and learning and has worked as a Mathematics teacher at a secondary school for five years as well as having experience of working as a personal tutor for students across the age and ability range.
John will be pleased to run this Area of Home-School Tutoring to assist pupils of all ages to achieve more understanding and success in their learning. All subjects, levels and ages are covered. More teachers and tutors are always needed to join the register of available tutors in this area.
John’s own speciality is Mathematics and as well as running this Area of Home-School Tutoring to provide help for all subjects, he will continue to tutor Mathematics himself when he is able. He understands that students can find aspects of Mathematics daunting and that at times they can benefit from one to one support in order to achieve their true potential. He believes that a student needs to understand how and why and what they are doing and this can sometimes be overlooked in a classroom environment. This could be true in any subject.
One to one tutoring, including ICT support where appropriate, can aid student understanding and help to boost confidence in the subject. Furthermore, John believes that all learning should not just be functional but also creative, and therefore fun.
Prior to teaching, John was a Civil Engineer for 20 years and this industrial experience has been an invaluable asset to his approach. He is a very approachable and understanding teacher and manager.
John loves family life with his partner, Jenny, and his two young children.
He enjoys running and keep fit and is also passionate about electronic music.
If you are considering personal tuition for yourself or your child, please give John a call. He will discuss and help to identify the learning needs or issues, then he will recommend to you the most suitable tutor.
John would like to stress that he welcomes enquiries from tutors who are graduates or have qualified teacher status, in any subject, who would like to join the team of Herefordshire/Gloucestershire tutors.
We aim to offer tutoring in as many subjects and levels as possible. If you teach or tutor in one of these subjects, please contact John.

Testimonials from this Area
A great service of tutoring
"My daughter Martha has been receiving extra tuition with her Maths from John Lewis for some months now ~ all I can say is we have been given excellent service. John is very professional and pleasant and Martha's progress has been fantastic. Very highly recommended." Jane ( Martha's mother)
Maths is making sense
"John put us in touch with my daughter's A-Level Maths tutor Paul and, although we are only a month in, she is finding him very helpful and the numbers are starting to make sense again. He has a way of explaining things clearly and her confidence is growing each week! I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them." (Student's mother)
Summer 2017: A level results joy
"Just a 'HUGE THANK YOU' to you for finding Beth to tutor my son. Cambridge English results are out today and he gained: English Lang B and English Lit A!
These are amazing results as when I had his predicted grades they were C/B so I am really proud of him and the results he has gained. However, this is down to Beth and her enthusiasm and expertise in getting the best out of him, following a very difficult time for him. He enjoyed her lessons so much and she worked him hard, but they also laughed a lot!
I have spoken to Beth this morning but I also wanted you to share 'the moment' as it seems rather special and exciting and some of this is down to you for selecting a great tutor." Kate (Beth's mother)
Mechanics A grade!
"I thought you would like to know that Jenna did her repeat Mechanics exam this morning and she texted me afterwards saying, 'best exam this year so far! I know I got one thing wrong but I felt confident about the rest so I'm hoping it wasn't too bad!' So it sounds very hopeful as Jenna does not normally sound so positive after an exam." (Jenna's mother)
And later after the results:
"Just wanted to say a huge thank you for your tutoring because altogether I got a B for maths however for Mechanics I got an A in my resit, which is crazy as I didn't think I'd go up so many grades from a D!’ So thank you SO much for everything, your help was much appreciated. (Jenna)
"Thank you for the time you have spent coaching Jenna. I know it has given her confidence and filled in a lot of learning gaps that she had which has helped her to build her mechanics ability. We were so pleased with Jenna's huge improvement which definitely influenced her overall maths grade. Thank you so much for your time and for the excellent tutoring that helped her to achieve this. " (Jenna's mother)

Contact us now and we will be pleased to help.
Enjoying sharing the success of students I have tutored this year in Mathematics. This includes:
- helping a student taking the challenging IGCSE Mathematics syllabus achieve an A*,
- a student retaking their M1 Mechanics improving their grade from a D to grade A.
- another student achieving grade A in Further Maths 1 and the third student tutored at A level achieve grade A at AS level.
The GCSE results for students under my tutelage also exemplified success across the board, with all students achieving target or above.
TUTORS WANTED: English & Maths tutors for GCSE & A Level are wanted in all areas of Gloucestershire. We are looking for tutors who offer quality tuition and have excellent skills. Science tutors and all other national curriculum subjects are also welcome to apply.
John is currently offering reduced rate introductory Skype Mathematics Tutoring sessions, ideally suited to students doing A level and GCSE.
