Parents describe Home-School Tutoring as the wise choice for quality, trusted, local tutors.
We provide tuition for all subjects and all levels and many parents tell us that one of the reasons why they choose us is because of the rigorous safeguarding standards we hold ourselves to.
Many of you will be aware of criminal record checking process which all staff working in schools in the UK must go through. In the past, the criminal record check was called a CRB (Criminal Record Bureau) check. This was replaced by the Enhanced DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check. The process of applying for an Enhanced DBS certificate means a check is made for any unspent/spent convictions, cautions, warnings or reprimands that the applicant may have received or any other additional information that the police deem appropriate to include in barred list searches. A DBS check requirement means that unsuitable people are deterred from applying for a job that involves working with children and young people. Even if they are not deterred from applying, if a DBS check is not satisfactory then they will be unable to work in a position involving contact with children.
At Home-School Tutoring, all of our tutors are vetted, reference checked and must have a clear Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check certificate. All checks must be satisfactory before they are accepted by your local Area Advisor to register with the local team of tutors. We also have ongoing safeguarding processes. We take safeguarding extremely seriously and believe that this should be the case for any organisation working with children and young people. Safety is rightly our priority. This is one of the reasons why Local Authorities and schools, as well as parents, use our tutors.
You may be surprised to know that it is not actually a legal requirement in the UK for private tutors to have an Enhanced DBS check (unlike teachers and any other staff working in schools or other educational establishments). The National Education Union (NEU) has called for a change in the law which would mean that ALL individual private tutors would not be able to legally provide tutoring without having had a DBS check. Whether or not that will ever happen remains to be seen.
However, our clients can rest assured that, whether the law demands it or not, we at Home-School Tutoring insist that every tutor has been vetted and has a DBS Certificate. We are also a corporate member of The Tutors’ Association which is the UK’s only professional body for tutors and tuition companies. The Tutors’ Association also fully supports the requirement for all tutors to have a DBS check.
We continue to be a national example of best-practice for safeguarding in tutoring. At Home-School Tutoring our Area Advisors and Directors are parents and teachers themselves. We run our organisation with the same standards and checks that we would want, and expect, for our own children. We are proud that parents see us as the wise choice when they need quality, trusted local private tutors.
