An Enhanced DBS check ( which is criminal record checking process) is a requirement for all staff working in schools in the UK as well as for all our tutors at HST UK. If a DBS check is not satisfactory or ‘passed’ then they will be unable to work in a position involving contact with children.  

 

At Home-School Tutoring, all of our tutors are interviewed, reference checked and must have a clear Enhanced DBS check certificate. It’s really important to us that we know all our tutors before they are registered and working for us.

We also have ongoing safeguarding processes. We take safeguarding extremely seriously and believe that this should be the case for any organisation working with children and young people.

The safety of our clients and the safety of your child is rightly our priority.

This is why Local Authorities, schools and parents trust our tutors and our high quality service. 

You may be surprised to know that it is not actually a legal requirement in the UK for private tutors to have an Enhanced DBS check (unlike teachers and any other staff working in schools or an educational setting). The National Education Union (NEU) has called for a change in the law which would mean that ALL individual private tutors would not be able to legally provide tutoring without having had a DBS check. Whether or not that will ever happen remains to be seen.

However, our clients can rest assured that, whether the law demands it or not, we at Home-School Tutoring insist that every tutor has been vetted and has a DBS Certificate. We are also a corporate member of The Tutors’ Association which is the UK’s only professional body for tutors and tuition companies. The Tutors’ Association also fully supports the requirement for all tutors to have a DBS check and it is mandatory to hold a DBS to be able to be a member of the The Tutors’ Association.
