Hello, my name is Cora and I delighted to introduce myself to you as the Area Advisor for Bristol, which is a role that I so enjoy. I cover regions around Bristol too, including Portishead, Weston-super-Mare, Clevedon, Cheddar, Winscombe, Axbridge, Wedmore and Banwell. I enjoy managing the team of tutors in this region and I love to build strong and long-lasting positive relationships with parents and children. I am very aware of the different ways that we all absorb learning and the importance of teaching to inspire and build self-confidence.
As well as being a qualified teacher, I am also a parent of two young children. Within our family, my husband and I aim to cultivate a culture of kindness, warmth and respect – affecting how we treat each other and our children – and this positive attitude helps all of us. This is something I am committed to practising in my work through my relationships with colleagues, with parents and children and the team of tutors in this region.
What I particularly love about being an Area Advisor and Tutor Manager for Home-School Tutoring is to be able to help students and parents alike by providing the ‘best fit’ tutor who is most suited to the needs of the child, student or adult. I pride myself on recruiting a team of tutors in this region who share my passion for learning and who adapt their tutoring to the student’s individual needs and requirements. Being freed from the constraints of a formal classroom, our tutors are able to identify and teach to each individual’s 'hook' and by finding what inspires our students, we are able to break down barriers to learning and facilitate progress.
I have a background in the arts, originally training as a costume designer, before training as a teacher. I have continued to work on projects in my spare time and find that these skills allow me to think and work creatively in my teaching too.
I look forward to growing our tutor team with more wonderful committed tutors in this area, for all levels and subjects. We want to help more students of all ages build their confidence, enjoy their learning and fulfil their goals.
Whether you are looking for a tutor or are interested in becoming a tutor yourself, please do get in touch and I look forward to being able to help you!
Cora

Recent testimonials from Home-School Tutoring Bristol
Sophie is a fantastic tutor and has connected amazingly well with Olivia. She makes the maths sessions fun and engaging for her and since Sophie has been tutoring we have seen Olivia’s confidence grow. She is coming on in leaps and bounds and it is the best thing we’ve done for her. (Mike, parent – English and Maths – Primary, year 5 – Brislington)
Sarah has given Seren the confidence to question and explore Biology. Sarah has helped her with exam questions and worked alongside her school curriculum, providing extra help where needed. Seren isn’t scared of Biology anymore. (Ellie, parent – Biology – A-level, year 13 – Bishopston)
Alice is great - very knowledgeable, patient and friendly. Having the opportunity to talk to Alice about the things our daughters don’t understand has really made a difference and as a result, their confidence is increasing all the time. I never thought it possible but the girls actually look forward to an hour of maths with Alice on a Friday evening! (Rob, parent – Maths – GCSE, year 11 – Clevedon)
Rowan always spends time to make sure he is teaching our daughter at a pace that suits her and that he is meeting her learning style needs. He has taken a subject (maths) that was previously scary for our daughter to one she enjoys and wants to continue with. (Steve, parent – Maths – GCSE, year 10 – Yate)
Darren has been supporting our daughter with her revision for her upcoming combined science GCSE exams. The time has been so valuable and the results were evident in her recent mock exams. Thank you Darren. (Sue, parent – Science – GCSE, year 11 – Lawrence Hill)
Ellie has been amazing at supporting our daughter who is home educated and has dyslexia. Ellie always makes time to ensure our daughter understands the subject and through her calm manner has managed to get a young person who was afraid of learning to someone who enjoys writing stories and is looking forward to taking an English GCSE a year early. (Kelly, parent – English – GCSE, year 10 – Portishead)
My daughter is doing really well with her German tutor. I find that he encourages her learning in a calm, kind & professional manner. The tutor will always give feedback when asked which helps keeps me in touch with her progress. (Rosemary, parent – German – GCSE, year 10 – Filton)
Cora at Home-School Tutoring Bristol has been amazing in finding the right tutors to support us with GCSE preparation for our home educated daughter. Each time we have contacted Cora she has worked to find us the right person who meets our needs. Each of our tutors who visits us at home goes out of their way to ensure our daughter has the information she needs and are always available to answer any questions or queries she or us may have. (Erika, parent – English, Maths and Science – GCSE, year 10 – Southmead)
We’ve been really pleased with Richard – He’s helped my daughter gain confidence in her maths and has really supported both children through end of year tests. He’s been brilliant at helping them with maths topics that they haven’t quite grasped in the lessons. It gives me peace of mind that they can get extra support when they need it and aren’t left struggling with complicated concepts. (Katherine, parent – Maths – Secondary, year 7 and 10 – Clifton)
The tutoring sessions with Cassie are always varied, fun and targeted to the areas Rachael finds particularly difficult at school because of her learning difficulties. Cassie is encouraging and patient and knows how far to push Rachael and when to sit back in order to get the best out of her. (Dee, parent – English and Maths – year 4 – Winterbourne)
The lessons are going really well. Catherine and Nancy have a great rapport and Nancy really enjoys their time together and is clearly making progress. We would highly recommend the tutoring sessions and we are planning to use Catherine and Home-School Tutoring Bristol again for our younger daughter when the time comes. (Lisa, parent – 11+ exam preparation – year 5 – Stoke Bishop)
My son has benefited enormously from the one to one tuition, which is uniquely tailored to him and for which he could not begin to receive in the normal school environment. He has seen improved exam results in his mocks, and feels much more confident and prepared for his upcoming GCSEs this summer. I can’t recommend one to one tutoring enough - it has boosted my son’s confidence in English. (Richard, parent – English – year 11 – Nailsea)
Weekly lessons tailored to my daughters exam board have been invaluable to support her progress. Stress free sessions, ability to ask questions and plenty of time for in depth discussion of the topics. When you have a child with dyslexia that bit of extra time and support builds confidence and facilitates progress. (Sophie, parent – English – year 6 – Whitchurch)
Dan has been our sons tutor for about 5 months now and I am so glad we decided to go ahead and get a tutor. Archie is 7 years old and has some additional needs. He isn't very confident with his learning but with the extra support from Dan his confidence has grown so much and he is now tackling higher level work. He really enjoys his sessions with Dan and is always excited prior to his arrival where as normally he is very disinterested in academic work. Dan manages to make the sessions the perfect blend of fun and academics and has really taken time to work out a more personal approach to my sons learning style. I can't recommend him enough! (Hugh, parent – English – year 2 – Westbury On Trym)
Dave is a really intuitive tutor who has been able to adapt his teaching to suit my daughter's learning style and make maths super fun. Not only has she progressed well since starting with Dan but she now speaks about maths in a positive way and feels confident in her ability. (Julie, parent – Maths – year 3 – Downend)
The first lesson went really well! Sascha loved it and was fully engaged the whole time. Ed picked up on her ability being solid and that the focus is around building her confidence and reducing the anxiety that she currently feels around maths. He's really lovely and the right personality type for her. I have already noticed she's talking about maths at school as something that she enjoys as opposed to dreads and that's only after one session so I think this is going to work out just fine! (Emma, parent – Maths – year 3 – Warmley)
The tuition sessions are going so well. Eva is feeling so much more confident in her ability. We had a parents evening last week and saw her learning; she's absolutely trying harder level work and not afraid to get things wrong. The teacher said he can see a positive impact in terms of her self-belief already. (Laura, parent – Maths – year 9 – Uplands)
Maths Tutoring Success!
We found out today that Ben has moved up in his Maths group! All thanks to the extra tutoring I’m sure. Looking forward to passing the good news on to Claudia, our tutor, tomorrow. (Elaine, parent – Maths – GCSE, year 11 – Longwell Green)
Confidence Building in English GCSE
The trial session with Jakes’ tutor, Christine, went very well, and Jake is keen to continue with further sessions. I’m sure he will gain confidence in the subject as time goes on. I think they will work well together. Thank you for arranging this for us. (Lucy, parent – English – GCSE, year 11 – Nailsea)
Our thanks to such good Tutors!
I just wanted to say how much Noah enjoyed his tuition session with Rebecca on Friday. He seemed so interested in everything she was teaching him, he was telling everyone all the new facts he learnt about snakes. We look forward to the next one! (Matthew, parent)
Thank you for being such a creative, supportive and understanding tutor to Annabelle. She has improved so much and I'm certain that your caring, gentle approach to her learning goals is the main reason for this. (Nia, parent)
Thank you to our tutors, from two Bristol families
It was a joy to hear Maisy last night. She enjoyed the lesson and really connected with Katie - that is half the battle we feel. For Maisy to no longer dread Maths as she has done for so many years will be an enormous relief to all of the family (as well as Maisy) and we look forward to seeing Katie next week and for sometime to come. (from a Bristol parent)
We are so enjoying having Beth tutor Evie. It’s having a really positive effect already on her confidence and approach to her learning. (from a Bristol parent)
A wonderful experience
Finn has enjoyed the sessions so much and has come along to each one so willingly, despite being very reticent on day one! He’s clearly enjoyed them and we feel he’s made great progress in such a short time. It has been such a wonderful experience for us all as his general approach to doing any work previously had been very negative. (from his Mother, Laura)
English and writing progress
What you have achieved with James has been amazing. You’ve managed to get him not only interested in writing but actually able to put pen to paper independently. Thank you for all your help. (from Martha, parent)
Such a successful tutoring approach
Cora's approach as a tutor was a joy to watch. She created a balance of activities and changed her approach to suit the speed of progress.
The techniques Cora taught to decode words for reading and maths have continued to be of benefit during this academic year and we are booking more sessions for this summer holiday. We wouldn't hesitate in recommending Cora. She has a very professional, kind and fun approach and has a great understanding of education and how children learn. (Parent, Elly)
A lovely tutor
It was fab to meet Cassie; she was very positive and professional and Pippa said the session was lots of fun. So a big thank you to you and Cassie for helping set this up. I know it's going to be a great help to Pippa. (Parent , Beth)
Private tutoring so helpful and lessons enjoyed
Our grandson Alfie was not a very confident little boy before he started school so we enquired about private tutoring. Cora made him feel at ease straight away and they hit it off immediately.
Alfie always felt very relaxed and comfortable with her as she made it fun so it was never a chore for him. He came on leaps and bounds. His concentration and focus improved, he was always so excited and he looked forward to his lessons. A year on he still remembers and talks about her and the learning they did together. I would certainly recommend Cora to everyone. (sent in by Charlotte )
