Hello I’m Andrew Murray – your Home-School Tutoring Area Advisor for the Devon County.
I’m have over 30 years’ experience of teaching Maths in comprehensive, grammar and special schools. I’ve also been a head teacher and worked as a private tutor myself. I am currently an examination officer in my present school.
I always strive to be receptive to the needs of students and their ambitions and to the concerns of parents. After careful deliberation I would choose the most appropriate tutor for students from my excellent team of tutors.
As an experienced teacher and private tutor I’ve seen first-hand the difference that supportive, personal tuition can make. I look forward to helping you with you or your child’s learning needs.
We will be delighted to talk to you without any obligation.
Best wishes, Andrew Murray

A mum’s story of her son’s Maths progress
This mother in Exeter filled in our on-line form a year ago asking for a Maths tutor for her 14 year old son ” He really struggles with maths, and with his GCSEs fast approaching, I think one to one tuition could really benefit him”
Ben, her son, was supplied with one of our tutors (Peter) and he has been tutored until March 2020. The tutoring was stopped because his grades had significantly improved and his mother wrote again to tell us:
“ At the start, my son’s self-confidence was low and Maths was baffling, uninteresting and like a foreign language. In just over a year Peter’s unique tutoring approach has instilled so much confidence that his targets have leapt two and a half grades, which is more than he needs for college. Other subjects have unexpectedly improved too. I found Peter to be very knowledgeable and patient. He was very flexible and agreed to set sessions that complemented his school work. Peter was extremely professional and helpful which always made the sessions very enjoyable and productive.” (Thanks to Peter, one of our Exeter Maths tutors, from a grateful mum, )
“They are so much more confident in English now.” – Year 11 / GCSE English
“We are really pleased with the tutoring so far; it’s going very well. The tutor is lovely and approachable. My sons have already learnt a lot and are so much more confident in English now. Thank you so much.” ( Parent of two sons, Wellington)
A real inspiration and a real find 11+ tutor
“We found Susan to be everything we had hoped for and more. She was punctual, polite but above all a real inspiration. She gave Peter self-belief along with some very useful sessions in English and Mathematics practicing for his 11+ examinations. Susan has obviously been a very successful teacher in the past and it was a real find to have her coach Peter. He has just sat his 11+ exams with Blundell’s and we are delighted that he has been awarded a scholarship to Blundell’s senior school. There is no doubt that Susan played a positive role in this.” (Parent of 11+ pupil, Kingsbridge South Devon)
An excellent and fantastic support to our son – GCSE Maths tutoring
“I just wanted to drop you a message to say thank you very much for finding a tutor for us at such short notice. *Valeryia has been excellent and has been a fantastic support for our son. He has grown in confidence as a result of his sessions with Valeryia and he has found her very easy to work with. She created a personal tutor plan for *Stan so that he could focus on his weak areas but she also prepared some revision for him which he found very helpful. I’d recommend Valeryia to anyone looking for a maths tutor that can provide a very personalised plan and is dedicated to meeting the needs of her students.” ( Parent of GCSE Maths pupil, Devon)
