Tuition for all levels, subjects and stages of education
Throughout Tyne and Wear/Northumberland, Home-School Tutoring helps pupils of all ages – from primary level through to secondary school and beyond. Our personal tutors work with students from schools throughout the region, including state schools, special schools and private/independent schools.
Many college and sixth form students also benefit from private tuition, as well as students from Newcastle University and Northumbria University. And we have many adult students too, whether they are studying for work or personal benefit.
Support for all ages and subjects; we ease the pressure
We know that there can be so much anxiety about progress and it can be mind-numbing for pupils who are unable to keep up with the pace of the teaching and therefore who may become anxious and fall behind.
Our team of specialist tutors help to build greater confidence and understanding; so whether tutoring is taken to help support students who find learning difficult – or to stretch and encourage those who need greater challenges -we love to provide ideal tutors for their needs.
We offer long-term or short- term tutoring help. Students studying for tests and exams, SATs, GCSE and A Level, 11 plus and Common Entrance exams – can all make sure they are fully prepared with tutors who help students to understand each subject while improving their revision and exam skills.
If you are a home-schooling family and have opted for Elective Home Education, we also are able to offer daytime lessons with many of our home tutors who are available and would love to support you.

Recent Testimonials from this Area - from parents:
The French tutor you recommended was fantastic! My daughters have benefited so much from the superb teaching Elisabeth has given them. My elder daughter's French writing test recently went amazing: she got an 8- and we all owe much thanks to her! I am extremely impressed and grateful for her teaching. Elisabeth is an exemplary professional and a truly wonderful person. (sent in from Rufayda, parent in Kenton, Newcastle)
Primary Maths Tuition thanks: Joanne has tutored our two daughters (now year 4 and year 6 at primary school,) for Key Stage 2 maths over the past couple of years. Until then, my daughter’s struggle with mathematics was having such a negative impact upon not just her whole school life but also family life too and the homework battles were endless and really getting us down. When Joanne started to tutor the girls, we could see an immediate change in attitude (especially my eldest daughter – who did have the greatest difficulty with the subject.) Her concentration improved and week on week we could see progress – not just academically – but with attitude and concentration and her overall positivity towards the subject just grew and grew to the point where she will now freely say “I love maths!” –something we could only have dreamed of! My younger daughter has always done better with maths but was desperate to be included when her sister started working with Joanne and she is now a real high flyer in this subject area thanks to these 1-1 sessions.
Joanne has a lovely manner with the girls. Her approach is so supportive and encouraging where they aren’t afraid to have a go and get it wrong and even with the tough areas in maths, the girls will always leave their lessons feeling delighted with their achievements and progress. The range of activities that Joanne plan are just super from practical games, online activities as well as whiteboard work, songs and other fun challenges. The girls are set manageable homework tasks that they are always keen to do and this does really reinforce the work done in their sessions. We cannot imagine our weekly routine without Joanne coming along to us to deliver her lessons. We are so delighted with how the girls are doing with their maths work. We really are very lucky to have found Joanne. (Parent of pupils in Low Fell, Gateshead)
Professional and supportive tuition: My son, Jack, had home tuition to support him with his year 9 English, particularly in his understanding of Macbeth and reading comprehension. Jack was very anxious about it however, once he met the tutor, Jon, he soon felt very relaxed and enjoyed the lessons. Jon was very professional and supportive, he helped Jack’s confidence and self-esteem enormously. Jon was always very punctual and reliable and an excellent teacher. Would highly recommend the HST tutoring service. ( sent in from Jane, parent in Bedlington, Northumberland.)

Testimonials from some of our local Tutors :
A very well-run tutoring organisation : I have been working for Home School Tutoring for many years and have found it to be a very well run organisation. Joanne who runs the local branch is completely professional in all she does and I have often contacted a parent on the same day as the parent has made initial contact with HST. She considers carefully the needs of the student and assigns an appropriate tutor. If any minor problem occurs e.g. mislaying a phone number Joanne steps in and sorts out the problem very quickly. I have enjoyed all aspects of tutoring both Chemistry and Mathematics to a variety of pupils - mainly at A-level or GCSE but occasionally have also taught mature students to support with basic numeracy or college maths courses. (Keith , a tutor in Whitley Bay, Tyne and Wear)
From Jeanette, one of our primary level Tutors : I have worked for Home School Tutoring in my area for over two, very enjoyable years. During that time, I have found Joanne, the Area Advisor , to be approachable, sympathetic and caring. She has always found me a wide range of students to tutor, carefully matching my curriculum strengths with their needs. ( From Tutor 'Jeanette in ' Washington, Newcastle )
Tutoring flexibility and satisfaction ! Working for Home School Tutoring for 20 years, I have enjoyed the flexibility and freedom it has given me in my teaching career. I have taught mostly Maths and English to pupils ranging in age from 5 to 16 and seen those lacking in confidence blossoming; those looking to take Entrance Examinations getting into the school of their choice; year 6 children exceeding expectations in SATs and GCSE students achieving their goals. Their satisfaction with results gained gives me an immense sense of pride in them and for them. (Lynne , one of our long-term, loyal tutors in Cramlington)
