Hello,
My name is Carola, and I am delighted to introduce myself as the Home-School Tutoring (HST) Advisor and Tutor Manager for the Gloucestershire region. Working in person and online, we offer a high quality, flexible and dynamic tutoring approach across all subjects, and we pride ourselves on our ability to support those with a range of learning needs and preferences. As your HST Area Advisor, I ensure I process requests and enquiries swiftly, and that you are connected with whichever of my trusted tutors best suits your needs.
My own educational background is broad and varied. I have a Bachelor’s and a Master's degree in Biochemistry, and a PhD completed with distinction in Physical Chemistry. Whilst I thoroughly enjoyed my research career, from which I gained invaluable experience, my real passion lies in supporting young people who may be looking for a more individualized, personalized or reflexive approach than that offered by other forms of education. I undertook my PGCE at the University of Bristol, and went on to teach KS3 and KS4 Science, as well as A-Level Chemistry, at a local Grammar School. I now work as a home-school tutor full-time, and what I absolutely love about being a tutor is that it allows me to cater for my students' needs in individually tailored lessons, developing their confidence and helping them to move forward in their learning journey.
As an experienced teacher and tutor myself, I know how important it is for children and young people to work with tutors who are supportive, professional and responsive to learning needs, and able to inspire enthusiasm, curiosity and confidence. Your tutor can help with developing and improving study habits, bringing back the joy of learning (even in those ‘dreaded’ subjects), and ultimately increase your child’s self-esteem. My HST tutors are handpicked and DBS-checked, and they all abide by our Home School Tutoring code of ethics.
If this sounds like it might be what you’re looking for, please get in touch for an initial conversation. I look forward to hearing from you!
N.B. I am always looking for more good teachers and tutors, for all subjects and levels, to add to our Home-School Tutoring register. Please get in touch if you are interested in getting registered.

"Carola is a great tutor, she engages with the student really well, and improvement is seen almost immediately. She tailors each session differently, dependent on strengths, weaknesses, and areas of improvement and she is overall, a great encouraging teacher who has a clear passion for chemistry and it's reflected through her teaching and the fact that we always go that one extra step to learn more." (Student - 2022)
"I love how she organises the lessons that suits your needs and your style of learning. The way she organises her lessons is so amazing since she uses a mixture of resources such as notes and exam style questions. She makes you feel really comfortable and will always be there to answer a question and if you need any help." (Student - 2022)

What a difference a week brings with a private tutor!
"Thank you for a great start today. Charlie was very compatible with Andy (Geography Tutor) and Charlie was really very happy with his lesson. The timetable for this week and the following two look amazing, you must have worked so hard. I look forward to meeting the Tutors and will see Peter, Beth and David later this week..."
"...What a difference a week brings! I cannot believe how all this has come together so quickly and Charlie not even out of school a week" (Parent of Charlie - Gloucestershire)
Reassurance & guidance in finding excellent tutors
"With the daunting task of organising home schooling for my 15yr old son in his GCSE years, I contacted Home-School Tutoring and they found me excellent tutors. Home-School Tutoring took into account our specific requirements and circumstances, helping to plan an initial timetable and advising on curriculums and exam boards and anything else I wasn't sure about! I have already recommended Home-School Tutoring to friends, who have been equally as satisfied and grateful as ourselves. Thank you all" (Cathy - Parent from Herefordshire)
This tutor again please!
"Thanks HST – fingers crossed we can still have Hugh in January as he was a great tutor!!"
Comments from a local HST Tutor
"I am glad if I have helped, and am in turn very grateful indeed for all the additional work you have given me, some of which has been remarkably enjoyable." (From one of our tutors in the Gloucestershire team)
Thanks to the tutors you have recommended to us
"I just wanted to say how helpful Jordan was to my son, in the preparation for his English GSCE. They got on really well and Jordan had a terrific way of inspiring and getting the best out of him." (Parent - Gloucestershire)
"We have just said goodbye to the wonderful tutor, Jordan Kruszynski, whom you matched to my son to help prepare him for his GCSE English. He has been a big support for my son, Joel, who sat his final GCSE English exam today. Jordan has helped build Joel's confidence as well as tutoring him in exam technique and I wholeheartedly recommend him as a tutor. Jordan's passion for English was apparent from the start " (Parent - Gloucestershire)
A great service of tutoring
"My daughter Martha has been receiving extra tuition with her Maths from your tutor John for some months now ~ all I can say is we have been given excellent service. John is very professional and pleasant and Martha's progress has been fantastic. Very highly recommended." Jane (Martha's mother)
Maths is making sense
"Home-School Tutoring put us in touch with my daughter's A-Level Maths tutor Paul and, although we are only a month in, she is finding him very helpful and the numbers are starting to make sense again. He has a way of explaining things clearly and her confidence is growing each week! I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them." (Student's mother)
A level results joy
"Just a 'HUGE THANK YOU' to you for finding Beth to tutor my son. Cambridge English results are out today and he gained: English Lang B and English Lit A!
These are amazing results as when I had his predicted grades, they were C/B, so I am really proud of him and the results he has gained. However, this is down to Beth and her enthusiasm and expertise in getting the best out of him, following a very difficult time for him. He enjoyed her lessons so much and she worked him hard, but they also laughed a lot!
I have spoken to Beth this morning, but I also wanted you to share 'the moment' as it seems rather special and exciting and some of this is down to you for selecting a great tutor." Kate (Beth's mother)
Mechanics A grade!
"I thought you would like to know that Jenna did her repeat Mechanics exam this morning and she texted me afterwards saying, 'best exam this year so far! I know I got one thing wrong but I felt confident about the rest so I'm hoping it wasn't too bad!' So it sounds very hopeful as Jenna does not normally sound so positive after an exam." (Jenna's mother)
And later after the results:
"Just wanted to say a huge thank you for your tutoring because altogether I got a B for maths however for Mechanics I got an A in my resit, which is crazy as I didn't think I'd go up so many grades from a D!’ So thank you SO much for everything, your help was much appreciated. " (Jenna)
"Thank you for the time you have spent coaching Jenna. I know it has given her confidence and filled in a lot of learning gaps that she had which has helped her to build her mechanics ability. We were so pleased with Jenna's huge improvement which definitely influenced her overall maths grade. Thank you so much for your time and for the excellent tutoring that helped her to achieve this. " (Jenna's mother)
