Private Tutors Across Somerset - Tailored Support for Every Learner
At Home-School Tutoring Somerset, we provide personalised private tuition for children, teenagers and adult learners across Somerset. We offer both face-to-face and online tutoring and work with families to find the right support for a wide range of educational needs.
We understand that every student learns differently. Some learners need help rebuilding confidence, others require support preparing for exams, while some benefit from a calmer, more tailored approach that works around anxiety, SEND needs or gaps in learning. Our aim is to provide supportive, effective tuition that helps students feel more confident and capable over time.
As Area Director for Home-School Tutoring Somerset, I work closely with families to understand their individual requirements before carefully matching them with a suitable tutor. We believe that a good tutor match is just as important as subject knowledge, and we take time to consider personality, learning style and educational goals when recommending support.
Our tutors include qualified teachers, experienced tutors and subject specialists offering tuition across primary, secondary and adult education. We provide support for SATs, GCSEs, A Levels, Functional Skills, entrance examinations and home education, alongside specialist subject tuition in areas including English, maths, science, humanities and languages.
We support families across Taunton, Bridgwater, Yeovil, Glastonbury and surrounding Somerset areas, as well as offering online tuition throughout the UK. Flexible online tutoring also allows us to connect learners with specialist tutors who may not always be available locally.
We have experience supporting learners with dyslexia, SEND-related needs and confidence difficulties, and tuition is adapted to suit the pace and needs of the individual learner wherever possible.
All tutors are fully vetted and enhanced DBS and reference checks are carried out as part of our safeguarding procedures.
Whether you are looking for ongoing educational support, exam preparation or help finding the right tutor for a struggling learner, we would be happy to discuss how we can help.
Please get in touch for an informal chat about your requirements.
I look forward to hearing from you!
Best regards,

Testimonials
From a parent whose daughter is being given on line GCSE English tuition: "I would also like to say that we are thrilled that Lisa is really enjoying her tutoring with you. She never complains about doing the homework or connecting online with you, and enthusiastically talks about what she's learning - so thank you. " October 2023
A mum's story of her son's Maths progress
This mother in Exeter filled in our on-line form a year ago asking for a Maths tutor for her 14 year old son " He really struggles with maths, and with his GCSEs fast approaching, I think one to one tuition could really benefit him"
Ben, her son, was supplied with one of our tutors (Peter) and he has been tutored until March 2020. The tutoring was stopped because his grades had significantly improved and his mother wrote again to tell us:
“ At the start, my son’s self-confidence was low and Maths was baffling, uninteresting and like a foreign language. In just over a year Peter’s unique tutoring approach has instilled so much confidence that his targets have leapt two and a half grades, which is more than he needs for college. Other subjects have unexpectedly improved too. I found Peter to be very knowledgeable and patient. He was very flexible and agreed to set sessions that complemented his school work. Peter was extremely professional and helpful which always made the sessions very enjoyable and productive.” (Thanks to Peter, one of our Exeter Maths tutors, from a grateful mum)
We highly recommend Home-School Tutoring
"We can not recommend Andrew and his team highly enough. Our daughter was facing a GCSE crisis and Andrew's empathetic, timely and professional service was a life saver. The tutors he recommended and found were first class too."
Both of my sons are so much more confident in English - ( GCSE tuition)
A brilliant 11+ tutor ( English & Maths)
"Thanks very much – *Jane was great. A lovely person and a great teacher who prepared Mary (Year 6) in English and Mathematics for the Entrance examination for Wellington School. She was brilliant!" (parent of pupil in Wiveliscombe, Somerset)
Confidence growing in Mathematics (Year 6)
"Yes all going well. *Carol seems to be really enjoying her tutoring sessions and her confidence in Mathematics is growing." (parent of Year 6 student, Taunton)
He is an outstanding Science Tutor! - (Year 10)
"John* is an outstanding Science tutor, who has rekindled my love of science. He helped me think things through and patiently worked with me when I didn't understand the topic/subject. He always encouraged me and patiently answered my questions but also made it fun. From my point of view he is Brill!!!!!!" (From a 15 year old Year 10 tutee in Taunton, Somerset)
Flexible, good value, friendly English & Maths GSCE Tuition
"After my daughter was predicted to achieve grade D GCSE in both Mathematics and English, we felt she needed further support to raise those levels. Therefore several weeks of flexible, good value, friendly English and Mathematics tutoring has not only improved her confidence and ability but her English GCSE predicted level has increased to a C! This reflects the huge benefits of Home-School tutoring." (Parent of GSCE pupil in Taunton Deane, Somerset)
