This month, we shine the spotlight on Sarah Johnston, the Home-School Tutoring Area Advisor for Hull & the East Riding of Yorkshire.
Sarah is a dedicated and enthusiastic professional with extensive experience as a primary school teacher. She is committed to ensuring the academic development of pupils of all ages and abilities whilst contributing to their pastoral care.
Sarah is a qualified maths and English teacher who has taught in schools, colleges and also lectured in English as a foreign language (EFL) at the University of Hull.
Sarah is also a writer who writes and publishes educational teachers’ packs, so has a very good understanding and up-to-date knowledge of the national curriculum.
In addition, Sarah is studying for her DipTesol Diploma with Trinity College, London as well as tutoring.
A passionate believer in home tutoring
Sarah has a long association with Home-School Tutoring as a successful home tutor.
“I have been a private tutor for many years now, helping students at primary level through to 11 plus entrance exams, GCSEs and A levels,” says Sarah.
“I have had the pleasure of supporting young people in their learning and seeing them grow in confidence and go on to fulfil their ambitions and dreams, which has given me much joy and satisfaction.
“I am a passionate believer in home tutoring and know from experience that this support at such a crucial time in a child’s education can literally change their lives.”
As a primary school teacher and in her own tutoring, Sarah specialises in the use of a variety of visual aids, learning techniques and incentives aimed at enhancing children’s motivation levels. She has a sound belief that all children have the ability to reach and fulfil their potential and is a willing aid to ensure that they can achieve this.
Sarah aims to be able to help students of all ages in her area with any subject or need by managing a strong register of tutors offering a wide range of specialisms. A friendly and caring person, Sarah strives to ensure that tutors and pupils are matched well and are always happy with their arrangements and the tutoring experience.
